Lido

The Lido neighborhood in São Martinho, Funchal

The Lido zona is named after the massive Lido Swimming Complex, one of the largest and most modern of its kind in Madeira. The area, called the “hotel district” in earlier days, is an international milkshake of tourists, expats living in vacation rentals, pricey condos massive hotels.

Anchoring the neighborhood is the Lido Promenade, another namesake, which runs along the waterfront and offers stunning views of Madeira’s south coast all the way to Ribeira Brava. The architecture here tells the story of rapid development over the last two decades, but the traditional Madeiran touches—like terracotta roofs and subtropical gardens—serve as a constant reminder of the island’s heritage.

Living in Lido means embracing an enviable lifestyle. Restaurants are everywhere, offering a mix of local and international flavors. And if you’re lucky enough to snag a condo with unobstructed views, you’ll be treated to sunsets over the Atlantic that are worth every euro. The area also offers unmatched convenience—frequent buses take you straight to Funchal’s city center, and a Pingo Doce grocery store is right next door for all your essentials.

If you can afford one of the area’s coveted penthouses or modern condos, the Lido zona is hard to beat. It’s a small, buzzing neighborhood with everything you need for a comfortable, connected, and stylish life in Madeira.
