This tiny chapel in São Martinho was built in 1627 and is what the Nazaré zona was built around.

It is is a notable example of the architectural Mannerist Movement, a style from that time period Baroque woodwork inside and, of course, Portuguese tiles (Azulejos). The chapel was designed by by Martim Vaz de Caires and an important part of the community.

In 2002, a shiny, new large church (with a clock tower) was built as a functional replacement to acommodate the growing population. Forutunately it's been preserved and was declared a "public interest property" in 1940.
